Dan Martin

Dan Martin gets the city home every afternoon from 3pm with The Music Derby Loves and the latest traffic & travel.

Dan is a local guy from Derby and has worked for many radio stations around the country, but broadcasting to the city which is in his blood led him to Derby ONE.

He is quite a chatterbox, and NOT a morning person. Which works well as his role is to chat with you and his show is in the afternoon!

Dan likes to get in a game at Pride Park and knows all the words to 'Steve Bloomer's Watchin'! Although, he admits that Derby County might not be his first team, but it’s a very close second. And no, before you ask, he absolutely does not support Forest. Not even a little bit.

We cornered Dan in the studio and asked the real questions...

  1. What’s your go-to lunch order?
The food court in the Derbion is awesome! Pretty much anything you want, right there or a short walk away, I'm looking at you Greggs!
  2. First song you ever bought, or wish you hadn’t?
I think it was Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder On The Dancefloor and I brought it from a music shop in St Peter's Mall, on the way into Derbion.
  3. What’s your favourite spot in Derby for a proper chill?
The park land around Kedleston Hall is really nice to get into the countryside, although I always find it really odd how quickly Allestree disappears and you're seemingly in the middle of no where.
  4. You’ve got one hour off, Derbion, Darley Park, or a cheeky pint?
I think a cheeky pint after taking a walk up Iron Gate to what one of my friends calls 'The Derby Beer Gate'
  5. What’s your most-used emoji? Be honest.
😛- its just so easy to type isn't it!
  6. Which Derbyshire tradition do you secretly love (or avoid)?
Going to Matlock Bath, playing on arcade machines, having fish and chips, a 99 ice cream and pretending the River Derwent is the sea.
  7. If you could sneak one guilty pleasure into the playlist, what would it be?
That is a really tough one, something from Friday & Saturday night Floorfillers as I am a dance music fan.
  8. What’s your weirdest on-air moment so far?
Probably when the radio station I was working at had a partial power cut and all the lights went off, whilst I was talking. I kept it together, in the dark!
  9. What’s the most Derby thing you’ve seen while driving home?
Someone shouting to another car driver whilst in a queue "ey up duck you've got a brake light out."
  10. Finish this sentence: “Derby ONE is…”
Just one item on a long list of the things that are great about the city.
