Lewis Allsopp
Lewis Allsopp wakes you up for the weekend, Saturday and Sunday from 8am.
Lewis lives and breaths Derbyshire, and you can usually find him on a walk, in the pub... or on a walk to the pub. Despite this, he's always been a morning person - and loves the weekend. A perfect fit for Weekend Breakfast!
His jokes are sometimes over-used, but he says they're 'highly tested and refined'... We'll let you be the judge! He's lived in Derbyshire all his life, and loves to know the gossip about what's going on round our way.
We cornered Lewis in the studio and asked the real questions...
1. What’s your weekend wake-up ritual (and does it involve coffee or chaos)?
I’m a cup of tea man. Leave it brewing for a while, and just a dash of milk. Can’t beat it.
2. You’ve got a bacon cob and a brew, what tune’s playing in the background?
I’m a bit all over the place with my music taste. Some days I’m in the mood for Whitney, sometimes it’s a Britpop classic… To be honest, if I’m eating a bacon cob I’m usually otherwise engaged!
3. What’s your most unexpected Derbyshire discovery, place, person, or pub?
I love the Peak District, and you’ll likely find me on a walk after my show…. I love finding a proper local’s pub too - The Miners Standard in Winster and The Alexandra near the railway station are on my faves list.
4. If Derby ONE gave you a mystery hour to do whatever you wanted, what would you fill it with?
A mystery hour?! It’d be a laugh and maybe some alternative tunes. The kind where you go ‘I haven’t heard this in years’... And perhaps a special guest, I'm sure I could find Les Dennis' number somewhere!
5. What’s your weirdest weekend habit you’re willing to admit on air?
Hmm… Weirdest is one thing. Admitting to it is the other! I have to say, I’m the biggest Antiques Roadshow fan. If it’s on, I’m on the settee watching on a Sunday night. Maybe I’m member number 1 of the Fiona Bruce fan club!
6. Be honest, how many alarms do you set for a Sunday morning?
Sunday morning can be tough… Usually because of the Saturday night! If I’ve had a quiet night, maybe one. If I’ve been for a pint… I set a million to make absolutely sure!
7. What’s one thing you always to bring to the studio?
I’ve had a pair of headphones since my first job in radio when I was 16. I’ve never changed them. They’re a bit grotty and one of the ears falls off from time to time… but they’re my lucky charm!
8. If you could teleport to any Derby café or bar right now, where are you landing, and what are you ordering?
I love a Cafe Rosa sandwich. My first one was after I’d got my A-Level results… and now I go every time I need a pick me up
9. What’s your favourite listener message that made you properly laugh?
I once got a message of a shopping list… it turns out a bloke had sent it to me instead of his wife. I just dread to think what his wife received!
10. Finish this sentence: “Weekend mornings in Derby should always start with…”
Derby ONE on the radio… obviously! And a bacon cob. Or a sausage cob. Or an egg cob. Or a bacon, sausage and egg cob. Plenty of sauce.
