Kirsty Corbett sits down with Philippa Shreeve, Director of Clinical Services at Treetops Hospice, following a national conference exploring the future of palliative and end-of-life care.
Philippa discusses the increasing demand for hospice services as the population ages and explains how modern hospice care has evolved far beyond its traditional association with cancer care. Today, Treetops supports people living with dementia, frailty, neurological conditions, heart disease and many other life-limiting illnesses.
The conversation explores how more hospice care is now delivered in the community, helping patients receive support in familiar surroundings. Philippa also highlights the importance of early conversations with families, practical planning following a diagnosis and the emotional support available throughout a person’s journey.
Kirsty and Philippa discuss the ongoing financial challenges facing hospices, balancing NHS funding with the need for fundraising and charitable support. They also reflect on how families often remain connected to Treetops long after a loved one’s care through fundraising, volunteering and community events.
