Kirsty Corbett speaks with Tanvir Akram from Derby Theatre ahead of the 30th Anniversary Eagle Awards, taking place on Saturday 18 July at 7pm.
The Eagle Awards are one of the biggest celebrations of amateur theatre in Derby and Derbyshire — recognising the passion, talent and creativity of non‑professional artists and companies across the region. Now in its 30th year, the event returns to the Derby Theatre stage with pzazz, panache and a packed house of nominees, performers and supporters.
Derby is home to one of the UK’s largest and most vibrant amateur theatre communities, and the awards — featuring a bespoke Royal Crown Derby Eagle trophy — honour individuals and companies who have excelled in key areas throughout the year.
Tanvir talks about the significance of the anniversary, the scale of the community involved, and why the Eagle Awards remain a highlight of Derby’s cultural calendar. This year’s ceremony is compered by Morgan Brind, with BSL interpretation by Trish Wright of The Inclusivity Group LTD, and is supported by Vaillant.
Tickets: £15 standard, £13 under 26s.
Performance duration: 2 hours 30 minutes.
