Jonny Balchandani – known as the Bearded Plantaholic - posts about his collection of thousands of plants to one million followers on social media and it has become a "lifestyle" for the Midlands man. He has appeared on BBC’s Gardeners’ World and spoken at events like the RHS shows and now, the Bearded Plantaholic is set to join TV presenters Adam Frost and Charlie Dimmock, along with florist Jonathan Moseley – a judge on The Big Allotment Challenge - at the first-ever Derbyshire Flower & Garden Show.
The event will take place at the Bakewell Showground on Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30 and visitors can look forward to live talks and a Q&A session.
The Derbyshire Flower & Garden Show - which is dog friendly - will also feature show gardens, floral displays, plant nurseries, artisan food and drink, family activities and expert demonstrations, making it a must-visit event for gardeners of all levels and nature lovers alike.
Ruth Hattersley, joint director of Mad Hatters Events, who are organising the event, said: “We are excited to be bringing the Derbyshire Flower & Garden Show to the historic market town of Bakewell.
“There will be something for everyone; from the occasional gardeners to seasoned pros, as we celebrate gardening, plants, sustainability and outdoor living.
“We’re delighted that Jonny, Adam, Charlie and Jonathan will be joining us for the inaugural event. From practical gardening advice to insights into design and planting for the future, their appearances are expected to be a major highlight of the show.”
Adam Frost, an award-winning garden designer with multiple RHS Gold Medals, is known for his down-to-earth approach and passion for accessible, sustainable gardening. Charlie Dimmock, a household name since her TV breakthrough, remains one of the UK’s most influential figures in garden makeover and design. Jonathan Moseley, meanwhile, is no stranger to the beauty of Bakewell and the surrounding area. In fact, it was Peak District walks with his family as a youngster that fuelled his appetite for the great outdoors.
Xavier Hattersley, joint director of Mad Hatters Events, added: “If gardening isn’t really your thing, then there will be live entertainment, an arts and crafts marquee and delicious local delicacies, too, from gourmet cheeses to freshly baked breads and handmade chocolates.
“There is a dedicated area for children, too, that will feature hands-on garden activities designed especially for young visitors.
“We’re thrilled to be launching a show that puts Derbyshire firmly on the UK gardening map.”
